Photoshop Organic Insides

Hello and welcome to another PS tutorial. In this one we will achieve a more organic looking image that imitate the insides. This tutorial is pretty simple because it uses only a few filters like Clouds , Difference Clouds or Glowing Edges and some blending options required to create the glowing and the bevel and emboss of the text.
We will try to create the bacgkround first (the organic part) and then we will add a text on top and try to blend the two together into a nice looking image like the one you can see below:

You can use this technique to create your own wallpapers, backgrounds or signatures.

The tutorial is pretty straight forward but please make sure to check every image when doing the steps for a better understanding of what is going on.
So let's get started...

Step 1:
Create a new document having 1024 Width and 768 Height (1024x768).

Step 2:
Create a new Layer by pressing the Button in the Layer Palette or press the Shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+N.

Step 3:
With the new layer selected go to Filter > Render > Clouds.

Step 4:
Next go to Filter > Render > Difference Clouds. Then press CTRL+F about 10 times to repeat the process.

Step 5:
Now go to Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges.

Step 6:
Inside Glowing Edges change:
  • Edge Width to 3
  • Edge Brightness to 9
  • Smoothness to 7

Step 7:
Go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap.

Step 8:
Inside Plastic Wrap change the following:
  • Highlight Strength to 16
  • Detail to 8
  • Smoothness to 4

Step 9:
Next add an Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer on top of our first Layer. To do this you can press the New Adjustment Layer button on the bottom of our Layer Palette or by going to New - Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation. First THICK COLORIZE or it won't work, then change the values to 11 for Hue, 40 for Saturation and 0 for Lightness.

You should end up with something like this:

Step 10:
Next add another Adjustment Layer but this time add a Color Balance Adjustment Layer. And change the settings like in the image below for Shadows, Midtones and Highlights.

Step 11:
Add a new Layer on top of all layers (CTRL+SHIFT+N) and fill it with black.

Step 12:
Take the Elliptical Marquee Tool and make a selection like in the image:

Step 13:
Make sure you don't deselect the image and go to Select > Modify > Feather or press SHIFT+F6 to enter the Feather menu and modify it's radius to 15 then press OK.

Step 14:
Next hit DELETE on your keyboard, you should end up with something similar to this:

Step 15:
With the black layer selected go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and change it's radius to 150 px.

Step 16:
We're done with the background, next we need to add a text on top. To do that select the Horizontal Type Tool (shortcut T) and add a new text with whatever font you want, or choose Viner Hand ITC and a decent size, 120 pt in my case.

Step 17:
Right click the text layer go to Blending options and modify the options like in the images below:

Drop Shadow:

Outer Glow:

Inner Glow:

Bevel and Emboss:

Bevel and Emboss > Contour:

Color Overlay:

Gradient Overlay:

You should end up with something like this:

To get to this result I just added a new Layer on top of all layers, change it's type to Overlay and painted with a red color on top of the text, then I just added another layer under the text layer, change it's type to Multiply and used a splash brush with a dark red to emphasize the blood color.

And that might be all for this tutorial. Hope you learned something new.  :D
